Day 1:
Arrival to Helsinki and self transfer to your downtown hotel for check in
We will provide you with a voucher which you exchange for a Helsinki card.
The Helsinki card is valid as a free entrance ticket to many popular tourist attractions, as well as for public transportation and gives you discounts on sightseeing tours and some shops and restaurants.
Helsinki is a truly exciting city! Famous sights include the Senate Square, Uspenski Cathedral, the Parliament Building and the Olympic Stadium. Sibelius Monument and Temppeliaukio Church are also very attractive sights. If you're looking for some shopping you should head off to the nearest Stockmann department store, or browse the boutiques along the Esplanade. To find a more local touch, try Helsinki's numerous markets for anything from salmon chowder to an accordion.
Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel
Enjoy a day of leisure and excursions in the Finnish capital.
At h19.30 the train departs off to Rovaniemi
Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, is situated at the Arctic Circle. It is also known as the home of Santa Claus. The tour starts in the evening by night train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi.
Day 3
You will arrive in Rovaniemi in the morning. First you will have some free time on your own in the town to for example enjoy breakfast. The tour day begins with a snowmobile safari; equipped with warm thermal clothing you are taken to a nearby reindeer cottage to learn about the Lapp culture. (Please notice that the transfer is made by car between 1.12.2009-11.1.2010). The exotic Arctic Circle ceremony, i.e. “crossing the line”, takes place in a traditional Lappish “kota” tent. You also have the possibility to take a reindeer ride.
In the afternoon a three-course lunch consisting of Lappish specialities awaits you in a cosy restaurant. After lunch the programme continues with a visit to the Santa Claus Village to meet the man in person. You can mail your postcards at Santa’s own Post Office and do some shopping in Santa’s Shop.
The tour ends in the city of Rovaniemi where you have free time to explore the city on your own. Your overnight train back to Helsinki departs in the evening.
Day 4
Back in Helsinki and departure back home.
